I am looking forward to reading more books from you. I also quite liked that the end was 'Twisted in a positive way'! Good job, Chikamso. It teaches good family values and morals, and encourages critical thinking and perseverance. Twisted in a positive way is a story about an indefatigable human spirit, one who summounts challenges, keeps driving toward one's goals and following her bliss. Everyone will be lucky to relate so intimately with their guardian Angel! One can only imagine how frustrating it is to grow up Nigerian without any form of guidance and inspiration.

'Herself' made the difference in Adaugo's life. It tries to portray a human with a higher consciousness. The book for me was part storytelling, part inspiration. Her characters, especially the lead, Adaugo were very endearing. Her scenes, language, plots and storyline is characteristic of growing up Nigerian between the 90s and 2000s. Chikamso took me on a journey to my roots. For someone who doesn't read a lot like me, it says a lot that I couldn't put the book down till I was done. Readers looking for inspirational books featuring women of color, or who are interested in dipping a toe in African literature, will probably find a lot to enjoy in this book. Overall, I found this an inspirational, heartfelt story about a young woman living in a culture most Americans are completely unfamiliar with, presented in a very approachable way. The descriptions of Lagos and the characters' lifestyles are also done in a way that made it easy for someone (me!) who knows almost nothing about Nigeria to follow along and enjoy reading about the culture there. The writing style is clear and simple, but with snippets of Nigerian dialect for flavor. However, she learns to listen to her inner voice and forge her own path. Adaugo is an academically gifted girl who does well in school but ends up finding herself shunted into a dead-end career after college and pressured to marry an appropriate-meaning rich and preferably light-skinned-man as soon as possible. A humbling read.Ī very sweet, uplifting story about a young Nigerian woman searching for her path in life. Chika tells a story you suspect is written from her heart. And trust that everything happens for a reason. Twisted in a Positive Way reminds us that life can be simple if we follow our heart. We often complicate life by building imaginary barriers to what we really want - in love, at work or self-fulfillment.

As we are taught: A tranquil heart gives life to the flesh, but envy makes the bones rot. The parable of the homeless accountant - the "warrior scholar" - teaches us to run our own race. The challenges Adaugo faces resonate - and they will with every woman, man or child who has given up on a dream. Written with a beautiful mix of British culture and African tradition, it teaches you a lesson with every turn of the page.
